Job Description:

FUNCTION:

Non-exempt position. Conduct radio-analyses of soil, sludge, and water samples by gamma spectroscopy and gross alpha/beta analyses.

DUTIES:

  • Operation of gamma spectroscopy and gross alpha/beta counting equipment.
  • Maintaining sample chain-of-custody records.
  • Radioactive sample handling, processing, measurement and data quality assessment.
  • Performing analytical sample preparation.
  • Review accuracy and completeness of analytical results from on-site and off-site laboratories.
  • Oversee proper operation, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Quality control/Quality assurance for laboratory.
  • Develop viable process alternatives and improvements, manage and adjust deadlines and deliverables.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Looking for local people in or around Friendly, West Virginia. Long-term project. No per diem.

Experience and Skills:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree Chemistry, Environmental Science or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with Canberra gamma spectroscopy hardware and associated software.
  • Proficiency in precise laboratory technique including good chemical hygiene.
  • Computer and documentation proficiency a must.
  • Must be capable in trouble shooting, independent problem solving, and be self motivating.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Lab environment, light lifting with some heavy lifting from time to time, bending and reaching necessary. Also may include some field work as needed. The position requires the ability to wear personnel protective equipment and work with hazardous materials. Job will require standing approximately one to two hours per day.
