Job Description:

FUNCTION:

Non-Exempt. Perform general laborer work activities in radiological work environments. Work involves decontamination with mild detergents, simple green, HEPA vacuums, Vec-Loaders, strippable coatings, scallers, peening hammers, chippers, saws-alls, and other hand tools. Perform packaging and waste loading operations as required.

DUTIES:

  • Operate various tools and equipment for decontamination and remediation activities involving radiological and hazardous waste.
  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and resourcefulness in the safe and efficient remediation practices.
  • Check equipment daily to maintain efficient and safe operational status including inspections.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment under adverse weather conditions, and works on a schedule other than the normal work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Schedule work to be performed and monitor progress.
  • Responsible for the implementation of safety and security policies, procedures and instructions for field/project operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED. Total of three (3) years general construction experience including radiological.
  • Previous experience working on radiological projects.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.
  • Must be able to commit to a specific project tour and duration.
  • Communication - ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, operating instructions and correspondence. Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly on a basic and technical level.
  • Skills - ability to work with mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.
  • Reasoning - ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to work in extreme temperature and humidity of an equatorial environment.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work around low level radioactive materials.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements of the fingers, hands, wrists and arms.
  • Ability to participate in physically demanding work while wearing personnel protective equipment including respiratory protection.
  • Medically qualified to wear a respirator, able to lift 50 lbs, and able to climb ladders without assistance.
